Round 9 – Sunday 14th October 2007.

This round was the last of the nine that made up the 2007 Delado Motor Club Rallypsrint Champioship. It was nice to see some faces that have been missing from previous rounds. Among them were Andrew and Paddy in the Sirion and Mike Bishop who had missed the last two rounds.

A new driver who was sampling the sport was Andy Sier who was sharing Mike Goss’s Golf.

After the heavy rain at the end of the last week alterations were required at Paddys bend as it was not going to be possible to run the cars through that section of track. The cars were run through the bottom infield section and round a new hairpin that cut them back onto the bottom section of the track. Also the long sweeping left hander that brings you onto the straight up to the finish line had a large puddle on the outside just waiting for anyone who ran wide.

Andrew Juric was given the honour of being first away and with Paddy in the passenger seat set off in determined fashion. An exciting run on the slippery and changeable track saw them return to the service area having obviously enjoyed themselves. Everyone else completed their runs but several drivers came into contact with barrels and markers as they got caught out by the lack of grip.

The action was certainly exciting as Pedro managed to get his Escort well up on two wheels as he completed his last event in this car ( a Mk1 Escort is under construction for next season). Alex Cannon was also pushing hard and also got his Escort up on two wheels, this time at the picket fence hairpin.

Despite this everyone managed to get to the end of the event, with the exception of Craig and Sam Schofield in the BMW who had to retire after stage 4 with a broken propshaft centre bearing.

In Class A Roy Gravestock pushed hard and took another class win despite a scare when the fan didn’t cut in any the Corsa got very hot. Alex finished second to Roy twenty seconds behind and Pedro came in third in class another thirteen seconds back.

In Class B Darren Knights took the win with Mike Bishop taking second in class after the Schofields retired. Andy Sier sharing L Mike Goss’s Golf finished in third just seven seconds behind Mike. A very good first attempt at the stages, but as Andy is not registered for championship points Mike Goss to the points for third in class.

Overall Darren won the event, Roy was second and Mike Bishop was third.

It had been another excellent day and a good event to finish the year off on.

I will post the final championship positions on the web site separately.

Darren Knights

Club Chairman.
