Brands Hatch Stages 2012

This was the first event on the 2012 season calendar and what an absolute fantastic start to the season it was. Rally World was supporting 5 vehicles on this event ranging from Mk1 Escort to Vauxhall Corsa. The crews and vehicles on this event were as follows:

Escort Mk1: Craig Schofield, Sam Schofield
Escort Mk1: Alan Carfrae, Liam Carfrae
Focus RWD: Robin Wilkinson, Electric Ray
Suzuki Swift: Alex Cannon, Darren Knights
Vauxhall Corsa: Roy Gravestock, Tim Ball

For Craig this was his first stage event in his escort with his new BDG built by Tommy Field. At the beginning of the event Craig was a bit nervous of the task that lay ahead, but after the first couple of stages he was soon in a good rhythm collecting respectable stage times and finishing 16th overall. This is a fantastic result considering Craig has not driven in anger for over 3 years.

Alan was in a similar position to Craig because this was his first event not only for a long time, but in a new and unfamiliar car. Alan also took a few stages to get into a rhythm but once he found it he was not too far off Robin Wilkinson's pace which is a good bench mark for Alan. Alan was ecstatic not only to finish and have a great day out, he completed the day in a very respectable 21st place overall.

Robin Wilkinson was hoping to start this season as well as he finished last season and this was achieved by finishing 19th overall. However it didn’t all go smoothly for Robin because on the first stage he clipped the tyres on the chicane putting a big dent in the door. Robin also managed to break the gear shift leaver which was repaired at the next service interval. Overall a great day out.

After an unpredictable 2011 season Alex and Darren were hoping to complete the Brands Hatch Stages with no Gearbox problems which has been causing problems for the last 3 events. Alex got off to a flying start pushing the swift to its limits and finishing a very handy 27th overall. However Alex didn’t get away without a little body damaged caused by the same tyres as Robin. This is a brilliant start to the 2012 season.

Roy Gravestock has been competing in the BTRDA for several years and this season he has decided not to do the championship and just do a selected few events this year. Roy has also upgraded from a 1400 Corsa to an 1800 Corsa and got to grips with it very quickly posting some good times. Roy had a slight miss-fire at lunch time but all was sorted for the afternoon loop. Roy finished the day in 43rd overall which is a good result for a gravel specialist.

Autosport Show 2012 (Blast from the past)

Every year Rally World attends the Autosport show on a Thursday which is trade day. The formula is always the same, little chef breakfast followed by alot of walking and bumping into old friends and colleagues at the show. This year was no different until the show was about to close and we stumbled across 2 cars which brought back some memories.

The car on the left, Sierra Cosworth GpA was built and run by Baz Cannon at Gordon Spooner Engineering and was used by drivers such as Gwyndaf Evans and Francois Delecour. The car on the right is a B200 Ex Stig car was designed by the man on the right of the photo John Wheeler and built by Boreham. A great way to the end another good Autosport Show

Robin unlucky on the Kall Kwik Stages 2011 Robin

Robin on the Friday night stages was slightly more competent than Nick but also struggled,
it was not until the Saturday stages when they started to show their true pace.
Everything was running exceptionally well and was looking to finish 3rd in class,
but slight confusion at the final time control meant they took a minute penalty dropping them to 4th in class.
However still a great and successful event for team and competitor.

After a nervous first couple of stages on the Friday night, Nick Jarvis and Alan Carfrae
really found there groove on the Saturday climbing 4 places during the Saturday stages to
claim 1st in class. The car and team completed the rally without fault making this a
very successful event.
